Amendment 3

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in manner to be prescribed by law.

Important Information on the 3rd Amendment

When the Third Amendment was introduced in 1789, it was immediately popular.  Two years later on December 17, 1791, it became the Third Amendment of the Constitution.  During the time of the American Revolution the British military needed a place to stay, so they created the Quartering Act.  This act said that the British had permission to stay in American homes.  The British soldiers took advantage of American homeowners.  The meaning of the Third Amendment law was to make sure no soldiers could stay in private homes without the agreement of the house owner.

How the Third Amendment Affects Us Today

Even though the Third Amendment was mainly made to avoid British soldiers, it is still useful today.  This gives the people the right to not allow the police to enter your house to search for certain things, without permission from a judge.  This can also make people feel more safe inside their house knowing nobody has the right to barge in.  This was also a major affect for many countries who decided to use the same law in there constitutions.  This is truly an amendment that was needed and still benefits us today.
