Important Information on the 3rd Amendment

When the Third Amendment was introduced in 1789, it was immediately popular.  Two years later on December 17, 1791, it became the Third Amendment of the Constitution.  During the time of the American Revolution the British military needed a place to stay, so they created the Quartering Act.  This act said that the British had permission to stay in American homes.  The British soldiers took advantage of American homeowners.  The meaning of the Third Amendment law was to make sure no soldiers could stay in private homes without the agreement of the house owner.
